Nylon Filament (Polyamide / PA)
Nylon (Polyamide, PA) is a heavy-duty synthetic polymer renowned in engineering and industrial manufacturing for its superior toughness, low friction coefficient, high resistance to wear and abrasion, and elastic flexibility under extreme mechanical loads.
Mechanical Strength & Friction Properties
Nylon parts can flex and absorb repeated dynamic shocks without snapping, making PA the ultimate material for functional mechanical gears, snap-fit hinges, drone arms, and industrial tooling jigs.
Hygroscopic Challenges & High Temp Requirements
Nylon is extremely hygroscopic, absorbing airborne moisture within minutes. It must be dried thoroughly at 75°C–85°C and printed directly from an airtight dry box using a 260°C–290°C all-metal hotend and a specialized Garolite/Magigoo build plate.
Estimating & Pricing Functional Nylon Parts
Because Nylon requires strict drying procedures, abrasive carbon fiber blends (PA-CF), and specialized build surfaces, commercial print services apply high material markups and risk multipliers when pricing functional PA orders.
