ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a high-performance thermoplastic structurally similar to ABS, but formulated with an acrylic ester elastomer instead of polybutadiene, conferring exceptional UV stability, weather resistance, and thermal endurance.

UV Resistance & Outdoor Durability

Standard ABS and PLA degrade, yellow, and become brittle when exposed to sunlight and outdoor weather. ASA retains its color, impact toughness, and mechanical integrity for years under continuous outdoor solar exposure, making it the premier choice for automotive trim, drone components, and garden enclosures.

Printing Guidelines & Enclosure Requirements

Like ABS, ASA requires a heated bed (90°C–110°C), a hotend temperature of 240°C–260°C, and an enclosure to minimize drafts and prevent corner warping. It emits fewer styrene fumes than ABS but still warrants proper ventilation.

Because ASA is an engineering material requiring high power consumption, enclosed printers, and elevated failure risk management, print businesses typically charge a 20%–35% premium over PLA when quoting functional ASA parts.
