PLA Filament
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is the most widely used 3D printing filament in the world. Derived from fermented plant starch (cornstarch or sugarcane), it is biodegradable under industrial composting conditions and delivers crisp detail with virtually zero warping.
Why PLA is the Industry Default
PLA prints easily at moderate temperatures (190°C–220°C) with minimal thermal shrinkage, requiring no heated enclosure. It emits a pleasant, non-toxic sweet odor during extrusion and comes in hundreds of colors, silk sheens, matte finishes, and dual-color variants.
Limitations & Temperature Sensitivity
PLA has a low glass transition temperature of 55°C–60°C. Objects left inside hot vehicles or exposed to direct summer sunlight will soften, deform, and lose structural integrity. For high-temp applications, PETG or ABS is recommended.
