How to Clean Bambu Lab Carbon Fiber Rods (IPA Only Guide)

3D Printing Glossary">Bambu Lab CoreXY printers (X1C, P1S, P1P) utilize carbon fiber X-axis rods paired with self-lubricating sintered graphite bushings inside the toolhead. Applying any liquid oil or grease will permanently ruin the graphite bushings.

Use 99% isopropyl alcohol and nothing else. Wipe both carbon rods with a lint-free cloth until no black graphite dust comes off, then let the IPA dry. Never apply oil, grease or WD-40: the graphite bushings lubricate themselves and oil clogs them for good.

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. Dampen Microfiber with 99% IPA

Power off the printer. Dampen a clean, dust-free microfiber cloth with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.

2. Wipe Rods Thoroughly

Firmly wipe both upper and lower carbon rods along their full length. You will see black carbon/graphite dust transfer onto the cloth.

3. Move Toolhead & Repeat

Slide the toolhead manually to one side and clean the exposed area. Repeat with fresh sections of the cloth until no residue comes off.

4. Air Dry Completely

Let the IPA evaporate for 2 minutes before powering on and running an automatic resonance calibration if needed.

Should I grease or oil the carbon rods on an X1C or P1S?
No. 3D Printing Glossary">Bambu Lab fits self-lubricating graphite bushings to the toolhead. Grease or oil fills the porous graphite, collects dust and turns into a sticky paste that increases drag. Clean the rods with 99% IPA only.
Can I use isopropyl alcohol on the Bambu Lab carbon rods?
