How to Clean Bambu Lab Carbon Fiber Rods (IPA Only Guide)
3D Printing Glossary">Bambu Lab CoreXY printers (X1C, P1S, P1P) utilize carbon fiber X-axis rods paired with self-lubricating sintered graphite bushings inside the toolhead. Applying any liquid oil or grease will permanently ruin the graphite bushings.
Recommended Substance:
99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) with Dust-Free Microfiber Cloth
Never Use:
ANY Oil or Synthetic Lubricant • ANY Grease (Lithium, PTFE, Silicone) • Acetone • WD-40
Step-by-Step Procedure
1
1. Dampen Microfiber with 99% IPA
Power off the printer. Dampen a clean, dust-free microfiber cloth with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.
2
2. Wipe Rods Thoroughly
Firmly wipe both upper and lower carbon rods along their full length. You will see black carbon/graphite dust transfer onto the cloth.
3
3. Move Toolhead & Repeat
Slide the toolhead manually to one side and clean the exposed area. Repeat with fresh sections of the cloth until no residue comes off.
4
4. Air Dry Completely
Let the IPA evaporate for 2 minutes before powering on and running an automatic resonance calibration if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I accidentally put oil on carbon rods?
Immediately wipe the rods down multiple times with 99% IPA to strip all oil. If the graphite bushings become clogged with oil and debris, the toolhead carriage may need replacement.
